Looking forward to seeing how it goes...

The shock cords can be a little long sometimes because I want to make sure there is enough suspension for some of the larger/longer hammocks out there.

Also, to try to get back on the topic of the OP, Top insulation goes a LONG way for regulating temperatures in a hammock.

Ref the "rarely need" comment above...I have hung many nights in the cypress hammock stands of the seminol reservation of alligator alley in January and used a three season UQ every night.... In fact, I have used a UQ every night of hammocking for several hundred nights since 2003...Never without one, from Maine to Florida and coast to coast, from 8* to 80*

UQ are the most comfortable approach for bottom insulation.... And most folk will find them necessary after 20-30 minutes in temps starting as high as 75*F.

A wide range of temperature regulation is possible with UQ, based on how snugly they are hung and design features that let one "open the windows" for temp regulation in warmer weather.

    Harpo - a couple considerations...

    - No insulation can reflect 100% of your body temp back at you, and especially not more. So technically, their job is to preserve as much of your body heat as possible. What you feel "radiating" back at you is some percentage of the heat that your body is giving off.
    - If you weigh more than your wife, then you'll make the hammock sag more...so she may have had bigger gaps than you did with the same setup.
    - UQs have a shape in how they hang. In addition to tightening the suspension, you might try moving the entire UQ towards the feet a few inches...this might snug it up to your back a little better. The perfect fit for this will change based on how the hammock changes, as well...for example, if you hang your feet higher, the UQ will probably need to be hung a little farther towards the head.
    - Tightening the UQ too much can cause it to compress under the butt. This is where the angle of the UQ's hang can help...that's the the Triangle Thingies are for that pgibson sells at www.arrowheadquipment.webs.com.

Hope you find a good, warm hang soon.

    Very good points Jeff.

Especially the one about different weighted people changing how much gap might be created.

Also, depending on how radically the hammocker is laying on the diagonal, there can be a little more fiddling to get things just right.

The differential design of the incubator should lend itself to staying lofted, even under the butt, regardless of how tight the suspension is adjusted.

    True statement...sorry for overlooking that!

Thanks for all the input guys... I did order the triangle thingies the other day thinking this would help... At least I know I got the AHE New River dialed in correctly, need to tinker with the two newest UQs.

cosmicmiami... hope all this extra information on UQ temps and getting them dialed in correctly is helping you too!
