    Newbie descender ring question

Sorry in advance for a dumb newbie question. I have a Trek Light hammock which is very much like the ENO..... gathered ends with cord loop permanently attached and a carabiner. I've been using the suspension system that came with the hammock which is simply a 5 ft. loop of heavy duty static cord with knots at intervals for clipping in the biner at the right level. Very easy, but not micro-adjustable. I've looked at the pictures and watched Shug's video about using webbing with an end loop/carabiner/descender rings and I think that looks pretty cool, and very adjustable. Here's my question ...... How to attach the loop from my hammock to the rings? Can I simply clip my carabiner over the 2 rings and have it still function properly? That would be really easy and quick. Or should I attach a small loop of cord to the rings and then clip in the biner? Or should I forget the biner all together and attach the rings permanently to the hammock loop with a lark's head sort of thing? Also, what's a good length for the webbing? I was thinking 6 ft. I 'll be using my hammock on whitewater rafting trips in Utah/Idaho/Wyoming/etc. so I'll be using a wide variety of trees and maybe even rocks for hammock hanging.
    Thanks
    KJ

I use the last method mentioned. Very simple mod.
Most of my webbing systems use 11' of webbing on both ends. I've found this length to very flexible for a range of hanging options.
    Trust nobody!

like cannibal i use 12' strap, about the same. permanently attach to loop on hammock with Prusik knot http://www.abc-of-rockclimbing.com/c...rusik-knot.asp two or three loops depend on cord.
It's not procrastinating, its proactively delaying the implementation of the energy-intensive phase of the project until the enthusiasm factor is at its maximum effectiveness.

    ring bend

If the loop on your hammock is large enough to pass the hammock through you should be able to use a ring bend.
Insert the loop through the ring. Take the other end of the hammock and thread it through the part of the loop that is sticking through. Pull the whole hammock through the loop. Repeat with the other end.

Actually now that I think of it, the ring bend can be "tied" more easily this way and does not require the hammock to pass through the loop:
Pass the loop from your hammock partly through the ring.
Then, flip the loop back over the ring, passing the ring through the loop.

I'll have to check Shug's vid to see if he uses the ring bend...
I'm not sure it would work with two descending rings on each end.

Not much of a horn tout when it is some of the best suspension info available. Take the info that the good professor provides to hart, it will keep you hanging comfortably from the trees for many years. I often send links to the series out to folks that are trying to decide on what sort of suspension they want to try, and how to assemble all the components into a usable set up.
