    Chain links and Rings ???

Heres a question, I just bought some amsteel chian links. When threading them into my Eno and attaching them to the rings. Does it matter where the splice is? I mean I can have the splice running through the rings or through the sewn end of the hammock. Is one better than the other? Is one stonger than the other?

IIRC you got Paul's chain links. He makes them really well so I don't think you can go wrong however you thread them.

If you girth hitch the loop around the descender rings you might be able to get it tighter around the rings if you use a section of the loop that is thinner i.e. that is not doubled with a buried section.

Thats about the same way I saw it. I put thick splice in the sewn end, So the thin end would have a tighter/flatter grip. Thanks for the confirmation.

Sadly I really dont remember what a girth hitch is. I could probably tie one with out thinking about it but I can't imagine wha tit looks like in my head.

Once the rings are attached and you slide the rings through the lose loop... would it help any to splice the rings through once more? So really it would be two wrapps on the rings and two wrapps on the sewn end? Really I think the only thing it would do is ensure the rings would'nt some how slide out of the loop. I know it kinda of sounds silly considering the hammock either stay in the stuff sack or under preasure while hung.

Basically this is what I think you are doing. You girth hitched the amsteel loop (chain link) around two descending then you fed the other end of the amsteel loop throught the channel of the hammock and then girth hitched it?

Yup thats it. I doubled up the girth on the rings and once through the sewn end. Just like in the hammockprofessor video. So basicly the question was should I double up the girth hitch on the sewn ends as well?

Doubling it in the channel is probably not necessary. It could be useful to shorten your chain link or maybe reduce the stress on the fabric but that's about it I think.

BTW why did you opt for rings instead of Paul's cinch buckles? Were they out of stock? Don't get me wrong, I like rings, but the cinch buckles do not require a slippery half hitch as a back up whereas the rings I have on my wifes' hammock do to keep them aligned and in place.
