Probably about $6 in gas, maybe like $12.

But yes, odds are really against me finding the material and even if I do it won't say what the heck it is.

By the way, how many yards will I need anyways. 5 yards of silnylon, 1yd of ripstop nylon for corner reinforcement? That should do it, right?

i'd say there's a good chance that what you saw at wally world wasn't sil. if not, you'd be wasting more money & effort on a tarp that wouldn't take care of you when you need it most.

scroll down to the "make your own gear" section near the bottom of this page to see the 1.1 silnylon.

at least 7.5... maybe 8 yards, according to how long you want it to be after hemming.

! With that much at $4.25 a yard, I'm definitely saving money by driving. Holy crap. Why so much material?

    8 x 4.25 = $34.00 plus shipping. that's not bad for a true silnylon tarp.
if you make one out of a DWR treated fabric & find yourself in much rain, you may have wished you had ordered the silnylon

Because you basically cut it in half and stitch the two pieces together. This is what gives you the side coverage that makes this tarp so popular. The cat cut edges reduce the weight and make it easier to pitch tautly.

is speer cheaper than the 2nd's at quest, it's pretty cheap there. around 5$/yd i think: www.questoutfitters.com

if i was using pull tabs and corner reinforcement fabric i would use polyester grossgrain ribbon. you can get it at joanne's fabric shops or online. they sell up to 2" wide the brand joanne's sells is called "offray" and is good stuff. you can use 1/2" flat weave nylon for the pull tabs themselves.

    Yep! Speer 1.1 sil = $4.25/yd Quest 1.1 sil 2nds = $5.95/yd

A buck seventy less per yard and they don't say that it is '2nds'; might be, but they don't say.
