    Hanging around...

I am not new to camping or backpacking. But spent most of my camping in a tent. Spent many summers sleeping in a hammock on the sides of the White River in AR while trout fishing when I was younger, but that was in a fine mesh hammock I bought in Mexico (which is extremely comfortable but weighs about 10 lbs! HA). I stumbled accross Jeff's site and decided i would like to try hammock camping again! I read where some of the problems i had when i was younger had been solved by others aka Bug Protection (I live in south MS, we have LOTS of them) and staying warm and dry. I have gotten my wife into this too, and originally bought a Hammock Bliss Triple size for the both of us to sleep in (worked good, except the later part of the night after we needed to move and were pinched together!) Now I make most of our gear including speer style hammocks and homeade underquilts! I like making my own gear and borrowing ideas (thanks everyone) from others and modifying them to what I need! I am going to try to post instructions of a cheap, fairly light underquilt that i have come up with, but most likely in another thread. I will prob try to link it here....if i can figure it out!

Welcome from a hanging neighbor near the Rez! Everything that I have, I made. I am presently pondering on how to make a UQ, so maybe we can get together sometime so I can see how you did yours.

    Welcome!!

As a long-time lurker, and recent DIYer, I warn you, this site and hammocking will become and addiction (and so much fun!).

2nd -- Pro Vagabond's "addiction" comment. I can't tell what I'm more addicted to. The DIY/Engineering gear aspects or the getting to go out and explore and hang with friends.

    It's a toss up. Truly.

Welcome! Can't wait to see more on your projects.

Thanks everyone for the welcome. I have the instructions ready for the UQ but i cant get the file size down low enough to post it. It is a PDF file with pictures and instructions. Any ideas? I have used the reduce filesize function of Adobe as much as it will take it down and then i tried zipping it, but that didnt help much.
