I hope so, thats the one I've been looking at!
That would be 18 hours for me to come by your place.
Interstate 40 is almost a straight shot for me. I'm about 60 miles north of little rock on greers ferry lake.

We could always have two on the same weekend - one up north and one at Rogers - then compare notes.

IMPOSSIBLE JUST TAKES LONGER
How many people are too far North to make Mt Rogers? I only heard Attroll and one other.
Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?
The hanger formly known as "hammock engineer".
if yall decide on mt rogers for sure, we could talk about a location there.
i`ve hiked there quite a few times & suspect the jacks have too... and mabey others here.
the first place that came to mind for me was a protected camp site on pine mt, but it`s a 4-5 mile hike in, according to which trail you take.
if we wanted a shorter hike in, leaving us closer to the cars in case there was a need, there`s a great trail leaving the elk garden parking area & heading toward mt rogers. after crossing through a pasture, your in the woods. less than a mile in i noticed lots of clean, open forest. but to be near a spring, we`d need to go just a little farther, but not to far.
just a thought for starters. ...tim
I too will something make and joy in it's making
hey Hammock Engineer, Mt Rogers is approx 20 miles east of Damascus.
Has anyone even thought about which part of Mt Rogers? I know the AT crosses Hwy 60. From there it is about 1 mile to the Old Orchard Shelter. If you go in at Grayson Highlands State Park you will have a short hike on the AT to Wise shelter.
You can also park at Massie Gap in Grayson Highlands and take the AT to Thomas Knob shelter. That would be to long of a hike if someone didn't have the right gear.
So I would recommend Old Orchard or Wise Shelter. Lots of trees at the shelters. In fact HOI has hammocked at Old Orchard before. Ask him about that
any other ideas?
I'd like to be on the AT somewhere but it's really not that important to me.
