Bridge hammocks for Heavy Hangers

For those having trouble with the Bridge arc when sitting - sit pad.

Drape a foam sit pad over the arc edge - problem solved.

We use a 10"x20"x3/8" GG thin light foam sit pad. It could be smaller, but we just cut 10" off the end of a GG thin light pad and used it.

The problem, of course, is worse when wearing shorts. The pad cushions the arc and we no longer have a problem.

A two piece speader is superior to a one piece design in that it allows for the minor rotation that occurs getting in or out of the hammock... given of course that the selected bars are first adequate for the compression expected...

that's a new consideration to me...but my bars aren't slotted, any such rotation would occur outside of the bars in the design where a pole tip slips between a pair of lengths cord.

I learned something! I can go home now....

BillyBob thanks for the tips on sitting in the bridge. Ill have to try scooting up to the ends. My simple brain never considered anything but sitting in the middle. I really dont like the leg pressure. I also sholuldnt have made a blanket statement about comfort of sitting in a bridge. I live I learn.

TiredFeet thanks for the tip on using a sit pad. I dont currently have a sit pad but im sure I will at some point.

These different opinions on GE vs Bridge is why I have both. There are trade offs to each one. There are position you can lay in one that you just cant in the other.

Good luck with the search for a + sized bridge that fits all the needs and wants you have for your bridge. This has been an interesting thread.

I have a HH and a CJH. Now I am thinking about bridge hammocks........
Spoke to Jacks R Better about the 250# weight limit on their model. The limit is due to the tension applied to the spreader bars.

I wa wondering if there are any other Heavy Hangers (AKA "Big Guys") out there who have DIY'ed a bridge out of Industrial Strength Materials? Winter is coming, and I am looking for a sewing and an engineering project.

Im 275 and the BMBH held me just fine. I have smaller diameter bars on my GrizzB and they hold up just fine as well. As long as you dont use the bars as handles while you are in the hammock, I think youll be OK.

Now that JRB is rating their BMBH at 275# maybe I should just pursue weight loss! Heaven knows, I need to.

do enough hiking, and weight loss will happen,
(as long as calories burned exceed calories consumed...those 'return to civilization' cheeseburgers are a program killer)
