I got mine at a bluegrass fest. We were pickin' and singin' "Cry Holy To The Lord" in a thunderstorm and I was moved and belting it out.
We finished the song .... everyone was on their parts. Most of us did not know one another. Just an impromtu jam. A man looked at me and said that I sang that song like sugar. I in turn hollered out as a joke "Ya'll call me Shug"!!!!
    It stuck.

Mine ain't so sweet, just years of small boat sailing and a Navy family, but regards Shug's...

30 years ago I had a neighbor when I lived in the Santa Cruz mountains redwood forest. She was a widow, in her eighties, and lived alone, and I was early 30's, and kinda figured I should look in on her from time to time. Her name was Shug too. One day during a terrific storm, with the wind howling, widow makers spiraling down and sticking in the ground like arrows, rain heavy and cold, and the power long out, I trudged over to her place to check on her. She was the only person around with a little generator. Knocked on her door and shed layers of oil skins at her invite to come in and have a 10 am heater. She made a couple G & T's, we sat down, the news was on about this wildish storm and how everyone's power was out. We were dry, warm and had drinks in our hands. Shug looked over at me with a wicked grin, raised her glass to me and said, "They all think we suffering." I've always appreciated a good Shug...

My handle on the trail is Water Monkey... Last trip I fell into 2 different lakes on 2 consecutive days. Fell in... like all the way.

I went by Trail Monkey before that but my buddy felt it had to be changed based on my apparent problem with lakes

That room looks great (love the GLP!)

But shouldn't a spare room be decicated to storing and testing hammock gear?

In high school, I got tired of people what I wanted to do for my future. I told them I was going to become a professional vagabond. I even had business cards made up.

My main forms of entertainment are on ice: ice fishing for 30 yrs and lately, 10 yrs ago, took up ice sailing. takes cold to a whole new level. Plus I have the haunting premonition that if I fulfill my dream of hiking into the far reaches of the Big Horn Mts, it will be my rotting carcass, like that guy found up in the Alps lying around for 4000 yrs. my mentor, Ice man. Heart surgery last July says this guy ain't hikin' NOWHERE. ATV riding is too much fun, and you see more scenery, it just goes by faster. Ice Man

    "islander"
Spent all my working life around the water. If there's not water close by, I feel claustrophobic in a way. And so living so much around water, Islands have always been close by, or where I hang my hat.
    So "islander" it is.
