Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone. I made a haiku thread and it got moved to a "donators only" forum. Is that real or is the guy that told me about it trying to pull a fast one on me?

Sorry about the crazy typing above, a local kid spilled some yak soup or something on my keyboard and it had to dry out. I just now noticed it, lol.

Dude, I'd be scared to hang out there in Cali with all those wildfires and stuff!!!

It's not bad. You can see and smell the fires miles away. My nephew, though, got caught in a house blaze and ran out of the house in his underwear and right into a camera crew. I haven't had a TV in years but I guess he was on the news in his skivies.

I think that people sometimes don't understand how very large California really is. Stuff that happens in one part has little effect on the rest. And people don't think we have any weather at all, until we start talking about snowshoeing and so forth... or the tornado that touched down one time near Fresno... and I've never had a surfboard nor do I know anyone who surfs. The wildfires in SoCal don't have much to do with us up here, but the lightning strike fires in Yosemite and Kings Canyon have been giving us great sunsets for a while.

I've also hiked through fires before. It's a little weird but not terribly dangerous if it's in the late smoldering phase instead of the blazing tree-eating phase.

And welcome to the board. I'm going to try for a late spring Yosemite hang next year, see if we can't get the cenCal and the SoCal and the NorCal hangers all together, despite some of us having to drive all day to get there.

^^^ Cool stuff. So what are some major regional variations in set-ups from around the country? Is it commonsense stuff like where it's cold they use more insulation or is there more nuanced stuff?

I've been doing a *lot* of reading up. Lots of differing insuislation types depending on whatcha mignt need, boviously down south in the summer you won't knead much. Up north, you might need top and bottom insulations.

Thanks I guess Yea, I definitely don't think i need much insulation in NC, probably skeeter netting is my biggest priority.

Believe it or not but Avon Skin So Soft is excellent at repelling insects. The only downside is that you smell like grandma.
