    Hey fourdog,

I'd like to see that Canadian fire. I've got snowshoes but might like to try your traditional shoes. Headrush won't be coming on this trip.

Phase one of my prep is complete. I built a pulk today using these plans:

    http://xray.bmc.uu.se/markh/skiing/pulka_english.html

It cost me 18 bucks minus the sled which I already had.

I tried it out tonight at a golf couse near my house with icy hills and it did great. I was completely amazed at how much the rigid poles aid in making the sled track right behind you. I also bought a roll of reflectix and made a pot cozy. I used to have one, but stupidly got rid of it during a decluttering spree. Now I need to come up with some more projects for the big roll of reflectix I have left!
Why can't I control the faces I make when I play my banjo?

Okay, so I'm sitting here bored... I think I'm going to try and get ready for cold. Hammock insulation wise for UQ I have the MMG shamu and a MW3, not sure how low I can get with the 2 layered so may need a heavier one. TQ wise I have a mamba 3S and a KAQ TQ (can't remember/spell the name) that has Paul's 4S/winter upgrade. Personal clothing wise... not even totally sure where to start/go. I have a set of compression/base layer thermals and a cheapo light jacket that is normally all I use. I also have an old navy jacket that has clearly gotten the short end of the stick in aging (arctic rated jacket that starts being warm vs toasty in the 30s now) . My gloves are light weight and would almost definitely need replaced, head is a thinsulate knit cap that will also probably need help at the temps you guys do. Any/all helpful input/suggestions are accepted.

O I'm trying to minimize my down usages now... Caught the dog trying to eat some of it...

Start at your closest thrift store or army surplus. Most of my insulating layers are thrift store wool sweaters. Look for tight weave sweaters and wool shirts. My winter pants are Swedish wool army surplus, again found at a thrift store. Surplus wool socks and gloves from Mills Fleet Farm. I,ve also scored a Marmot dri-clime wind shirt at a thrift store for $5.00. You don't have to spend a lot on clothing if you're willing to hit the thrift's on a regular basis. Remember, you have to be there first.
