    Did it Myself Whoopie Slings

Thanks to SlowBro's how to thread and Samson web site. Here's my latest DIY project. 7/64 Amsteel Whoopie Slings and I put the toggles on to the Adjustable end to keep it from closing in on itself. The Fixed loop end is a little larger than recommended on purpose.

Looks nice! You have a link to SlowBro's How To? I don't think I've seen that one.

    Are your toggles arrow shafts?

If you had said something during the AZ fall Hang I had 7/64 Amsteel with me and could have walked you through making the Whoopies there.

I went to Samson rope site for the buried Brummel/ fixed eye end and searched for Whoopie sling construction here and found Slowbro's thread.
SamD I had the 7/64 th with me but we were having too much fun, never enough time in a weekend to fit it all in. I agree with Te-wa, you need at least a week in the wild just to find your groove.

    adjustable ridgeline

Gnome, those are some fine looking whoopies you have there.

After reading and viewing several tutorials, I got up the nerve to slice and weave part of the amsteel I ordered and am very pleased so far. It's amazing how so many different things can accomplish similar results. I wound up scraping off the green stuff from a piece of my wife's floral wiring, bent it in half, pinched the end to a blunt tip and used it to thread the amsteel into itself and it worked quite well. As a matter of personal preference I used painter's tape instead of a marker.

On one end I put a small overhand knot loop next to another overhand loop that was ran through the channel and larksheaded with about 15 feet of loop for a whoopie bury ending near the hammock. On the other end I gave the same offering of loop and whoopie next to a larksheaded overhand knot through the channel but extended that line to become the ridgeline with a whoopie at the foot end of the hammock.

My thinking is that I would have a very strong and lightweight system that is easily adjustable where needed.
I'll see if I can get a couple of photos of it once it's loaded in a couple of weeks, but that is a weak area for this old trail hound.

Happy trails to all and again, great job Gnome!

    Mike

I just made up my first, too. I went with the marker, but it was hard enough to see that I wished I had some paper tape. One thing that amazed me, the pictures you see? Amsteel is really about 1/4 the thickness it looks. This stuff is slim!
