Thumbs up 2x4 Stand and DIY UQ

Ok, I've been busy. First I needed a stand so I could hang indoors. Searched around HF and decided to try building a 2x4 stand. Thanks go out to TrailH4x's portable hammock stand design and instructions. Built it last Saturday and have used it everyday since...

Secondly, in preparation for the Texas Fall Hang I needed an underquilt to get me by until I decide what I really need. Decided to invest $10 in a child's sleeping bag and convert into an UQ. Worked on it at night and just in time for the temp to drop, I finished. Got to try in out last night, it was 39 degrees when I woke up and I was toasty. Of course I drug out my Marmot down mummy bag for a TQ, but all was good...

Nice woodworking on the stand. Looks like you took the time to round the corners and all. Are you going to stain/seal it by chance?

It's a boy's digital camo, but when I opened it up found the camo only on 1/4 of the bag (the top only) so I just used the inside of the bag for the outside of the uq...

Sanded also, because I plan to use indoors. After the wood dries a bit I was planning to seal it.

Where did you pick the sleeping bag up at? I'm assuming from the price it was just a 40 degree or so bag. What were the temps when you test the uq?

    thanks,

Bought it a Walmart, not sure if it had a rating. When testing the temp was 39 when I woke up at 7 AM. I was warm. I also used a 3/4 thermorest trail pad and a square of reflectix under my feet.

Planning on building my own too.

However, I do plan on keeping it outside (subject to freeze/thaw, rain, snow and other weather up here in Canada).
    What's the better choice?
Weather treated wood (heard some issues with the chemicals and close contact with people).
Untreated, and then a paint/stain? What about holes for hardware? Does it have to be painted/stained internally?

Was passing through Home Depot. Cedar is suppose to be weather resistant, but would still to stain right? Pricey though.

Nice job on both! I went with the "Rabbit Ear" stand. I like the UQ, am going to do something similar - may just copy your idea. Did you read any particular post in the reconstruction?
