How to find your titanium stakes

I don't see well so I have had the difficulty of locating my dropped titanium tarp stakes. I noticed BPL now Coates the end of theirs in orange. My solution was to purchase 11/64" heat shrink tubing located in the electrical department of the hardware store.
I cut a 1" section of the tubing at put in on the hook end of my stake and applied heat. The tubing comes in different colors. I couldn't get the tubing to register on my scale. However lost stakes lighten my pack weight and wallet weight
Hope this cheap and easy solution saves someone else some money in the future.

You might also add some reflective cord before you heat shrink. Maybe with a loop to assist in pulling (if needed). Your headlamp or flashlight will help you spot the stakes!

Good idea on that .... to good to lose one.
I sprayed some bright blue paint on the top half of mine ...... year and a half later still visible.
It has helped me find them.

Wow, great idea! Thanks for sharing. This is particularly timely for me, because I lost one of mine in the leaves just last month at Neo's annual fall hang at Meriwether Lewis National Monument in Tennessee. I've got another AT section hike this weekend and I might do what you did, or just use the last of some phosphorescent orange spray paint I have sitting in the garage.

Anyway, thanks for the idea! I also like the idea of reflective string someone mentioned. Always lots of good ideas on HFs to choose from.

high-visibility everything certainly helps, but I find that having a very regimented morning-camp break down routine helps the most.

I won't break it down second by second, but stakes are the first thing I take down, unless its raining then I put away all of my clothing & sleep system, the stakes, tarp, ridgeline come down last. The stake is either stuck into the ground, or in use as a toggle, or in my hand, being put back into its stuff sack.

A place for everything, and everything in it's place.

I got some bright pink duct tape and wrapped the top of each stake with it. Works like a charm... and I have some handyman's secret weapon with me at all times!

Speaking of "high-visibility everything", it has been suggested to me to put some reflective tape on the ends of my hiking poles about 4 inches from the tip to aid in night hikes where peripheral vision is reuced due to the "tunnel vision" of headlamps.
