    First night in my WBBB-TL

Hope I am posting this in the right spot.

Just wanted to post about my new blackbird triple layer that I ordered from Brandon. I am new to the hanging thing but am excited to start. I have been ground camping for years but have always struggled with trying to sleep comfortable.

I received my triple layer blackbird in the mail Wednesday of last week. It was waiting on the kitchen table when I got home from third shift. I had to wait for some carabineers, longest day ever, before I hung it Friday. It was surprisingly simple to setup and the comfort was amazing. My wife, who is not much of an outdoors person, tried it out and actually said she would go with me if I got her one.

I tried my first night in it Saturday night. Now just so you understand. It was about 35 degrees Saturday night and all I have so far for my setup is my wbbb-tl. I knew from posts it would be a cold hang but I tucked in a mattress pad and used a sleeping bag and bundled up good.
Needles to say I froze my butt off but man it was awesome. I canít wait to pick a tarp, add an adjustable ridgeline and about a million other things I have read about.

Thanks Brandon for a wonderfully built product. To anybody considering a Warbonnet product I would have to say go for it. It is a quality product made by a guy with a passion.

If I can figure this post stuff out I might add some pics.

Any advice anyone has on gear recommendations would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    IRCK

Not sure. I am 280 pounds and it hold me fine. I got the three layer after speaking to a couple of people on the forum who were big guys like myself. They suggested that it added 100 lb or so rating. It also offers an extra layer in case I happen to snag it. May not be needed but happy with it all the same. Really feels beefy. Not sure if it matters to most but makes me feel a little more secure.

I weight 275 and have a BB dbl 1.7 and have not had any issues. A Traveler is next on my list of hammocks to get. Still its neat that Bandon will custom make a hammock for a customer. Thats customer service

    A lot

I'm just over 300 and although the Dbl 1.7 suits me just fine, no concerns whatsoever about reaching its weight limit. However, it wasn't quite as flat a lay as I'd like since I can assume from the website and talking with Brandon that I was on the outer edges of the "comfort rating" of the Dbl 1.7. I also ordered a triple layer and I can sleep in it just like I do my bed at home - side, back, stomach... several times each night lol.

I love it and its only about an 8oz "penalty" over the Dbl layer, but with the significantly added comfort it is worth it IMHO. He just sews the two 1.7 layers together and adds a 1.1 layer to the outer layer of the hammock. I still have a dbl if I'm needing to go lighter, but the triple is my go-to on most hikes.

I also can second the customer service... top class to say the least. I had to trade several emails with him to get it right and he was always responsive and courteous. Can't say enough about the service.

I'm glad you like yours too. The couple of people that I know of who have a triple layer don't regret it a bit.

make a trip to walmart and buy a foam pad in the camping section. that will keep your butt and back warm for the time being...

The pad I had was a little short and a little narrow. I will look at Walmart and see what I can find. I would say a under quilt is in my future. Tarp first... then underquilt. I see abunch of people have the OES brand. I may try it out since I see he is a member. A camo tarp is what I would like to find that has multiple tie outs like the OES. Maybe he has one...

Triptease, I havent tried the two layer but I agree the three layer lets me lay comfortably in a very flat position. No regrets.

IRCK, I would look at Arrowhead Equipment. Paul is now selling tarps.
