    Hello from Saint Louis, MO

    Hello, all

I am a future hanger from Saint Louis, MO. I don't have a hammock yet, but I will in short order. I will soon have my own hammock(s) and quilts made. My Mom will be doing the sewing once I get the material. This Community has been and will continue to be invaluable in making this happen for me. A hearty thanks I owe you all for that.

I will be making the switch from ground-dwelling for the same reasons as many: lighter, cheaper, easier, and more fun.

Two years isn't exactly short order, I suppose, But it has in fact happened.

My first trip is this weekend, and I look forward to being free of my ground-dwelling ways. A winter trip is hardly ideal to make a first run, but it is what it is. I am no stranger to winter camping, and will be with a few friends to drag me out should I have a problem. I shouldn't tho, because I'm no hero, and have a backup plan should I need to go to ground.

I have a homemade DL 1.4oz gathered end hammock, pad and homemade SPE, and I will use my MSS's intermediate bag as my top quilt. I will be putting the patrol bag in between the layers of the hammock, for additional bottom insulation. I will be using a cheap blue 9x11 tarp for now.

It is projected to get into the 20s this weekend, cloudy, but no precipitation. (but I plan for that anyway, as always)

If I need to, I will throw the bivy around the MSS bags under the the tarp on the ground, with the pad/SPE under me.

But I don't think I'll have to sleep on top of the 6 sextillion ton heat sink. It just doesn't sound like a good idea...

    I've done it!

It was good. My hang was a little on the janky side, but I learned a lot. I'll do much better next time. Thank you HF, you got me through the winter hang. I hope I can become a more active, contributing member.

You guys are awesome, pics are on the way.
