    Cohutta Guidelines

    Hey All,
This link shows the guidelines for camping in the Jacks River area in the Cohutta Wilderness. They only permit camping from November until the end of March. Also apparently camp fires are prohibited, probably also meaning wood stoves. Just FYI.

Good link Met77 - thank you!

it notes this - so there must be someplace designated that is ok to camp during this time at Beech Bottom
CAMPSITE RESTRICTION - IN DESIGNATED SITES ONLY

Camping in the Jacks River area, except camping at designated campsites in the Beech Bottom area from November 1 through March 31.

    ---------

it also notes a group more than 12 people is prohibited :/

Well heck, if you'll take bamaguy, then I know I am welcome. I may be interested in a Memorial Day activity. But don't expect any Dutch ovens with me if we are hiking in.

They're real protective about the Falls area because of the years of abuse. There's plenty of places to camp down the river about a mile and half near the Rice camp intersection and Jack's River Trail intersection and further down the Jacks River Trail. Just have to hike a little to enjoy the Falls, but it's well worth it ! Beechbottom trail is super easy about 4 miles and is great for newbies. Ricecamp is another easy one, but a tab bit more challenging. We've never had problems with campfires at the campsites I just mentioned.

There's lots of places to stealth camp too. However, I wouldn't recommend it with a group bigger then three.

Don't forget the Cohuttas has more then just the Jack's River Falls. Panther Creek Falls is a must see and many really cool sites along the Conasauga River.

I'm up for a cold weather hang there in Feb or March...lets do it!

    Colder the better

I may be the exception but the colder the better for me. Just got back from a 25 degree hang on Tray Mountain and had the AT to myself. It was perfect! 14 miles of hiking and saw not another soul. A January / February hang sounds great to me. I'm a NE GA boy but have no issues traveling west. I'm working on knocking off all 76 miles of the GA AT so anytime anyones coming this way, let me know.

Looks like 2 groups can do a get together

Panthers creek March & Cohutta in May

I'm actually undecided & can possibly do both
