Do we have any idea how many are hiking and how many are car camping?
Hedgehogs! Why can't they just share the hedge?

These things seem to be structured with the whole body car camping and those wanting to stretch their legs, go on a day jaunt and return to the campfire FOOD

One of the primary advantages of the large group congregation is the demonstration of gear. (Including lots of stoves). That takes up a significant amount of time and requires a stationary stage.

As a backpacker and having just recently discovered the group hang concept, I now realize that they are two different things and both are a ton of fun.

I should be in for camping Saturday night and maybe a day hike Sunday. We'll see how the planning goes. I might have to take a day off to make one of the hikes. Brand new to hiking so I am eager to try out my gear before my big hike in April. Look forward to meeting some folks and checking out some different set ups.

Much agreed with enjoying the car camping and all the luxuries with it.
I'll be bringing along a handful of alcohol stoves, and with a little luck, a Backcountry Boiler wood burning kettle.
Along with all the firewood my truck will carry, camp chairs, hammocks, tarps, tent, coolers, a few folding tables, kayak.

    Car Camping + Hiking

I plan to drive in with the kitchen sink but would still like to do some hiking. I usually backpack so I'm just trying to get back into this whole car camping thing.

So, I'm open to a dayhike in either direction. I haven't looked too closely at the map but I think either Alexander springs is an easy out and back. Juniper springs is also doable but a little farther. I'm hoping to have a new pack by then so this will be an easy hike to tinker with the new suspension and gadgets.

I'm looking forward to being back in camp for the evening though. I really want to check out the various setups folks have for tarps, ridgelines, suspensions, etc. I'm sure if somebody has thought of it, someone else has improved upon it. Kicking back in a comfortable chair around the campfire enjoying a good dinner sounds like a blast.

I've got a 10" and deep 12" dutch oven that have been collecting dust in my shed for years. If anyone's "dutch oven foo" is stronger than mine I'll bring them along. I'm way out of practice and have lost/forgotten most of the recipes I once had. A fresh batch of brownies or some cobbler would be great. I'll be sure to bring them along. Please PM me if you've got a favorite recipe we can try.

I'm coming from far away and am going to leave Thursday afternoon after work and drive 5 hours to stay in Walterboro SC that night (which is still another 5 hours away from Ocala). So that will position me to arrive Friday around Noon. I would like to get with some people and backpack in a few miles before dark and camp. Then hike back to the main camp for Saturday afternoon's festivities. Maybe paddle the lake early Sunday morning then I will need to be leaving in the afternoon to go visit friends in Vero.
    Anyone interested in that?

This sounds exactly like the plan that I had in mind!

I've just recently been introduce to what a Dutch Oven can do. Where have I been? I definitely want to learn the fine art of D.O. cooking!
