How did you get on with the tarp running a little higher in the rain?

Keen to hear what your pack included for the o’nighter at 10kg’s
    Hi Lep

Yeh it was a fun trip.
That picture was just a novelty one, I had strung the tarp first then it was too high when I lowered the hammock down to sit in. I pulled the tarp down after that to about 6" off the hammock ridgeline and all was well.

The 10kg pack was just my light summer gear, not much extra clothing other than a Paclite Arcterx raincoat, 180g/m merino summer top, montane wind pants and a pair of socks.
Hammock, tarp and quilts only weigh about 1.7kgs total with pegs etc. My pack's only a 30 litre job which doesn't weigh much either.
Food was very light with just some beef jerky, large musili bars and a freeze dried meal + some hazelnut latte sashet thingy's and a few shotz tablets for the water.
Cooking gear was just my optimus crux lite stove and pot set and a 100g fuel thingy half full. I did have other gear but that always stays in my pack like prolite seat, pain killers, bug spray, suncream etc.
Most of the weight was the 3.5litres of water I consumed on the hill, after that there was plenty of water up on the tops.

    Hi Mate,

I'm walking the Corker in a few weeks and are plannnig to stay at Wombat Creek the night.

I can't seem to find to much info on this particular track. Do you know of any websites that have any good info on the area? Did you go near Wombat Creek? I'm interested in what the hammocking facilities are like. I'm also the only hammocker in my group.

Great report. I look forward to adding my 2 cents worth.

    Cheers,
    Russ

    Hi Russ

I have all the topo maps for Barringtons as I hunt around the edges of it a bit anyway.

We didn't actually go to Wombat creek campsite, even though it was only a 300m walk from the track junction at the top.

I could recommend the NPWS tourist map, it's got the trails and camp sites on it.

Greg who I walked with has been to Wombat creek campsite, He actually prefered "Black Swamp" campsite which is only just up the track towards Junction pools (Aeroplane Hill Trail or towards the Big Hole then swing left at the locked containment gate) Had a nice outlook over the swamp.

Also there is a hut nearly at the top of the corker, about 300m off the trail. It's called Selby Allen hut and the entrance track to the hut is a bit hard to find and not marked.
In the heat that would be my pick of the spots.
as it's got a great little waterfall next to it. (that's in some of my pictures)
Drop me a PM if you like, I can tell you what format my GPS is set at and the co-or'd as I saved the entrance track start.

You'll love "the corker", I'll be doing that one a few times for training before heading to QLD hunting red deer in the hills in April.

    Goodluck

There, It's out. I said it, Ahh I feel better now
