I never pin anything that won't be inside the seam allowance.
Of course, as a result of that, I have sharpie marker lines all over my finished product

Thanks. After noticing this, I've resolved to only pin under where I will sew.

Do pins come in multiple gauges? I need some thinner ones if they do.

Yes. I've also used normal sewing needles in place of pins.

Personally, I like the ones that have big round bright yellow heads. That keeps me from sewing right over very many of them

    In regards to right/wrong side.

Since momentum is a DWR, wouldn't it make sense to put that coating inside. This way it will be subjected to less abrasion and hopefully as a result last longer?

Just my thought. I haven't used any yet, so I can't comment on the OPs questions.

I am ordering some of the 20 denier stuff from OWF soon though. Wanted to order it today, but I got a bunch of Cuben coming instead. I'm not sure the wallet can take another beating for a couple weeks.

The taffeta has a much softer feel than the RS if that works for your project. I'm making TQs right now, so RS on the outer and taffeta for the inner.

To get around pin holes in fabric I like the idea posted in other threads about using the black metal spring clips from the dollar store to hold the layers together. The small ones work great. Just remember to remove then before they hit your presser foot.

I believe most sewing supply places will have "silk" pins- they are a bit thinner..sometimes also shorter, so keep track of them..not good to discover you sewed one inside a seam at 3am...

DWR doesn't work unless it's on the outside. It's not like silicone impregnation or a membrane.

Isn't it more like the old urethane coatings? Those were on the inside. The fabric would wet, but the coating wont help keeping it from leaking through? I guess you want to keep the fabric dry, so putting the DWR out is probably better.
