Ropes, Straps, Rings - Where to start?

Thank you for reading - I just purchased by first decent hammock; a TrekLight double and cant wait to use it. When it comes to hanging the hammock, I have seen the cord the TrekLight sells, straps, treehuggers, D-ring contraptions, and a plethora of other uses.

I would like to get some recommendations from this group on what is the best approach with my hammock, and if you can provide links, that would be great. I live in Northern Utah and have access to several outdoors stores, and also seen references to Harbor Frieght, REI, Recreational Outlet, etc.

Ropes seem like the straightforward approach, but straps seem to get more flexibility. I have seen Rings used as a tie on-point, and also as a buckle. Just curious - I am quite open to suggestions, examples, experience.

    Cheers -

Thanks is actual the link that I found this forum with - for my set-up, it appears I would not need the strong cord. Also, I am swam through the pages on that article - the last page has a video where rope was used with rings attached to a strap - which is different from what the article started with. Is the recommendation to create a strap around the tree with rings, and rope between the hammock and rings, or full strap use as the article began with?

It is hard to beat webbing and cinch buckles for strength, simplicity, and ease of use. No coincidence that they are standard on Warbonnet hammocks.

To be honest, I have always thought of cinch buckles for holding your pants up or a light strap on a backpack - from reading some posting on this forum, it sounds like it can hold a decent amount of weight. Do you recommend full circle rings, or d-rings in this type of application?

Thanks again for your quick response

Either the buckles sold by AHE (same as Warbonnet) or those from onrope1.com. will serve you well.

    Paul beat me.

The Cinch Buckles that OG is referring to would look like this.

These are the standard system on Warbonnet Hammocks, and unlike Rings do not need to have a backup knot tied behind them to prevent slip in the straps.

Paul - Thanks, I have checked out your website under suspension. I see the buckle in the image (with and without the chain) - sounds like I may not need the chain (correct) with out the ends of a TrekLight are made?.?. Also, I could not find the buckle (with teeth you could say) that I have seen posted on this forum. Could you point me to that?

Wow - Great forum of hammock users - even if it is single digits outside. Thanks for the recommendation and concurrence ShadowAlpha.
