My best to you! This sounds like a perfect opportunity to push a little. You have location and you have a bail-out plan, if you get too cold.

Let us know how you did.

Good luck. I plan on being out this weekend in forecasted lows of 18 in Shenandoah. Going to make sure I pitch camp close enough the trail head that I can bail out if I need to but I'm not anticipating that happening.

Good luck I agree with others that you will be uncomfortable but it wont kill you...also depends on if you are a warm or cold sleeper. Good luck and looking forward to your report.

    Unhappy

    Well, I didn't fail, I simply rescheduled...

Actually, it bothers me when people don't do what they say they will do, but when *I* don't do it it *really* bothers me. That said, I was not able to test my gear because I was working quite hard at the Centre and I had to 'be around' all the time rather than out in the woods somewhere. Maybe I shouldn't have considered hanging on this trip but it did seem like it would be an ideal opportunity.

Monday night was very cold at -12C overnight (about 10F) and -7C in the morning. I would have been cold. Tuesday night would have been ideal if I hadn't had the commitments in the Centre. It was slightly cloudy with a light snow and around -6C overnight and through till morning (about 21F).

I did however use my downmat and sleeping bag. Very comfortable on the floor.

To answer Yianni, the sleeping bag is good, but I haven't 'exercised' it. I bought a cold-rated bag because I camped one time with a simple, cheap sleeping bag and surprised myself at how useless it was when the weather got cold. I don't want to camp in sub-zero temperatures, but I do want to be comfortable in colder-than-expected temperatures. Having said that I wanted to find out if it would be comfortable (or merely tolerable) in the cold weather here.

Never mind, there are two more months of cold winter to go. Thanks for the help and advice. I *will* do it!

    A

Ah, that's too bad. I have no doubt you'll get out there, soon, and I can't wait to hear how you do!
