As far as the knife, I again I wanted something following the KISS philosophy and it will soon be getting replaced by the Rana Neck Knife built by Buenos
To take some of the cost down, my favorite neck knife is the Ka-bar Eskabar/BK14. (Picture here: http://www.amazon.com/Ka-bar-BK-14-K...f=pd_rhf_p_t_1)
(I got mine from www.tomarskabars.com) priced at $35.

Hey Mugs, the leathermen was more of a suggestion for dog owners and in a wilderness evironment and I totally agree that a leathermen saw and knife are a poor substitute for almost anything...more mentioned it in the sense that those two things come with the pliers however ineffective they may be.

    Cheers

    Nice kit!

    Hi Mugs,

Nice looking kit! I like the accessibility of each individual item, while keeping everything together solidly! Good job and well thought out.

I am wondering what the current knife is? Who's the maker and the model?

    Thanks!

Very cool. My mini kit has similar items, though I need a better knife.

I use a seal-a-meal bag as a water bladder. If you don't have a food-sealer, you can still seal the bags with a lighter and the pinch method. Leave a corner open, and fold/roll the corner down a few times to seal. Duct tape works well to reinforce the edges so you can add a cord to it for carrying.

I put iodine tabs in a mini-sized seal-a-meal bag (1/2" wide) and sealed it up. no bottle to carry and if the tab get's crushed, just cut the corner and pour in the water bottle...

I like the Wrapped biner... I might have to try that...

Nothing fancy...Its about 25ft of 12lb test but that special Trilene Fluorocarbon line that is actually about 6lb test diameter so it winds up small. A few small hooks, and a few small split shot sinkers along with a couple of snap swivels. I also have about 6 small screw eyelet hooks (you can buy at the hardware stores) to be able to screw into a stick, and use it as a line guide. And about 15ft of snare wire. Of course all of this does double or triple duty for other applications if needed, snaring, lashing, sewing, etc, etc. It all fits into a small "balm" type container. I may try to get some picks up soon of that part and the water part.
I miss my 4.8Lb base weight as a ground dweller...But I sure DON'T MISS the ground.

Where did you get the whistle from? What model, etc?
For a neck knife I now wear this:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ht_2400wt_1139

I replaced the GobSpark Armageddon from Firesteel.com with one with a smaller handle end to reduce the lump it was making under my shirt at work.

What do you guys have against a leatherman? i have had a supertool for many years and it has saved my butt many a time. It goes everywhere with me. Serves the purpose it was made for.
