He is 11 last weekend he wanted to make a fire with a bow. I tried explaining to him if you keep a lighter in a ziploc bag a bow isn't needed (I have used a bow I know) after 20 minutes he said give me the lighter and after I stopped laughing I gave it to him.

I have spent all week trying to think of a way to eliminate the ridge pole. the closest I have engineered is making one of the tripod legs slightly longer with one leg running under the hammock attaching a pulley run my slings through the pulley down to the bottom spreader ties causing a triangle of force. would love to hear if anyone has tried this.
You could always leave the ridgepole at your base camp. If stealth is needed you could always use top rail break it down, strap them together and hang them in a tree off site. Just need to remember where you hung them.

To eliminate the ridgepole, you will need to "stake out" the tripods, bipods, or single pole similar to this method.

Lbagley: Sorry to hear about your bank troubles!

Took me a second to figure out 3/4 emt is probably 3/4" electrical mule tape. Quite a few folks here use mule tape for their suspension straps. I'm not sure how well it protects the trees, however.

You can build the whole TL stand from saplings on site SDC15191.jpg and leave it hidden in the brush so you don't have to carry it out. Just inspect it for rot each time you go back to it. Stored upright, it could last a whole season. Good luck!!

I don't remember just who, but someone has used the emt successfully, sorry I can't give more details.
