    Kind of Triangle Thingy lol

So after hearing all the hype about triangle thingies I got to thinking… did I really need the fabric to achieve the same result? I found a great way to snug my UQ up the same way the triangles would but without the fuss of making them. I use an ENO Dbl with no net, so this method wouldn’t work for someone with a canopy, like say, a WBBB.

I hung my crowsnest the way I always do… by attaching the suspension to the gathered ends of my hammock. But then I attached 2 s-biners to the ridgeline and ran the UQ suspension through them as well, essentially changing the angle the same way the triangle thingies do. I noticed that the shock cord from the UQ was pulling the biners back towards the gathered ends (thus negating the usefulness) so I took a spare whoopie sling I had lying around and attached it to the biners. Now I can adjust the angle of the UQ suspension on the fly by adjusting the sling. All in all it works very well for me.

I attached this pic to “illustrate” what I did. I am definitely no Dejoha lol. But I think it gets the point across…

I’ll try to take some pics when I get home from the office tonight.

That's a good trick for hammocks with ridgeline but no net!
To minimize it for backpackers, simply put a small prusik loop of zing-it on the ridgeline about half way between the UQ & the hammock end. Then run the UQ suspension through the prusik. Slide the prusik to the best position.

bingo! i was going to use prussiks first, but came across my whoopie sling in my gear box when i was looking for my paracord. the advantage of using prussiks is that you can leave them attached to the ridgeline at all times, hang stuff from them when not used for the UQ, and they are much lighter/ less bulky than the whoopies. i'm probably going to play with them when i get home as well.
