    Trek Poles as Spreader Bar?

Just got my BMBH and I love it. However, In the spirit of ultralight backpacking, I was looking for info on how to use my trek poles as spreader bars. I know I have seen it discussed before. I have Black Diamond Ergo Cork trek poles. They collapse to 29", but have a 15* angled handle. I just can't think of a safe way to get them setup there. Any advice is appreciated.

Check some of the photos and stuff from Grizz. He tied to the grips of some poles with cord. I'll see if I can find the photo.

    Hi, I'm Grizz

The picture Walking Bear showed was one of the experiments that in the end I didn't promote so much

    The thing is that
    (a) good hiking poles are expensive, and
    (b) there's a lot of compression force on those spreaders.

Now I can and do use hiking poles for spreaders, but I work extra extra
hard to get the compression force centered through the middle of the pole. Even with those funky handled PacerPoles.
With the poles you have, if you could shove the sheathing near the handle down (it's going to slide or tear if you just tie cord to it, if you get your hitch right, if you work out a solution for the tip (and various photos I have are good on that one) then the pole will be at an angle--albeit small---to the compression forces, which stresses the pole laterally.

Now I saw Pan post a while back that he uses hiking poles for spreaders...I'd be interested to see what he does. My DIY bridge hammocks are different at the corners than the BMBH. oh Pan, you listening???

After looking at my poles, considering the price of them, and reading the previous post.... I will probably just use the spreader bars and be satisfied with my already very light load. If I wanted to go nuts about weight, I'd be on a ccf pad under a tarp, instead of in mid-air luxury anyway

I'm going to use the spreader, and possibly may do the grizz mod which Dutch tuned me into.
