800/725# and 550# Braided Spectra Line

After seeing some 750 lb spectra line pop up in the PIF thread I did some searching online.

Has this been discussed elsewhere on the forum?

From the threads I have browsed the smallest line I have seen people using is the 2mm/1000 lb stuff. With reports of 250 plus pound guys hanging from that stuff, I'd like to image that lighter people could safely hang from the 750 lb line.

Has anyone tried the smaller line sizes.

I found this website with the 550# at $0.22 per foot and 800# at $0.26 per foot.

Has anyone purchased this line before?

They list the 550 as 1.9mm diameter and the 800 as 2.5mm. Larger than I had expected.

Is it just scaled down dynaglide/amsteel or are there other elements to it?

    Is it lighter?

    What are your thoughts?

Seems like the 550 could be great for a really light weight bear bag line.

This website also sells some kind of spectra line.

I was wondering about the spectra and dyneema lines and where to buy at reasonable prices. At .22 and .26 per foot- I think I might just stay with the 7/64 amsteel. As for the 550 cord, I would just use paracord, much cheaper.

The line from Spearit is not a hollow braid, so you can't splice it the same way you would splice Amsteel. Amsteel is stronger and cheaper, too, but it may weigh a little bit more.
