We just finished the FloridaSwampRunners hike. It was a blast and I know you folks are going to have a great time, too. We are fortunate to have so many wonderful people on the forums!

Time to start checking the packing lists and checking the weather.

I'll be heading that way tomorrow to pay for the reservations and hopefully pick up the permit so I don't have to head there again next week before the hang.

I also plan to catch the clamming class since I missed it last month. It was too cold last month! Okay so it wasn't snowing, but it was too cold (50's) for me to be standing calf deep in water for an hour. Tomorrow it will be in the upper 70's, with a nice 5-10 mile breeze. I love Florida.

Looks like there will be plenty of room if anyone decides they want to join us.

Would love to be there. Now for excuses, 38th wedding anniversey, still sore from last weekend, probably will be too hot, etc, etc. I am anxious to meet some other Florida hangers. Have a great time.

Any other packing suggestions? Extra water containers and trash bags have been added to the list. Current weather forecast looks great to me with highs in the upper 70s and lows in the lower 60s so I assume I won't need a wide array of clothing.

I will be packing up this week before heading down to Florida this weekend. Any idea yet about meeting times or places? I am planning to have internet connectivity while I am down there, so working out meeting details shouldn't be a problem. However I won't be sitting at a computer all day like I do now. ;-)

What campsite are you planning to reserve? I believe the website said something about canoe rentals available for sites 1-5. Not sure if that will be an issue, or how strict they are about the rentals...

I just returned from Canaveral and making the site reservations. Unfortunately my first choice site was booked. We have site #3 Shipyard reserved from 23-27 March, 2011. It has plenty of trees and shade and the rangers were doing a site cleanup there today, so I assume it should be relatively clean when we get there.

    The GPS coordinates for the site are: N 28 56.279 W 080 50.691

Since I was already there picking up the backcountry camping permit I stayed and attended a clamming class and found some nice clams in a very short amount of time. I'm certain a clambake is on the menu! Again the dolphins were out playing. I have a few pics that I will upload later. I should have taken some of the clams but did not carry the camera out into the water.

Linuxhack did you want to camp Wednesday and Thursday night or just Thursday night?

I'll be sending my contact info to those who have expressed interest in attending via PM later today for coordination purposes.

You will have to pay $3 to enter Canaveral National Seashore. Once in you can drop your boat at the boat ramp that is just inside the gate on the right. You will have to park across the street in parking lot #1 once you unload the boat.

As I'm packing if anything comes to mind, I'll make sure to let you know what you might need.

    Sure, sure...JK

I'm sure there will be other trips as the year goes on. One of the great things about kayaking in warm weather is if you get too hot, just get in the water!

There is always a breeze out there and I'm hoping for one day with some gusting winds to practice using the windsails. I need lots of practice!

If we end up heading out there on Wednesday, either Timberrr or I can meet you at the launch on Thursday and guide you to the campsite if you like. If we end up going out on Thurday (which is likely) I'll see if we can't arrange to meet there near the same time and head over together.

    Sounds great, thanks!
