    Okefenokee Swamp Hang

The wife (who is 7 months pregnant) and I just got back from a trip down to the Okefenokee Swamp. It was great! We canoed out into the swamp and camped with the gators. The water level is low so many of the alligators have gathered in one of the canals. We saw right around one hundred in a single day! It averaged a gator ever twenty feet! One swam right alongside the canoe then went under us and rolled, it was awesome.

We setup the hammock chairs close to each other, so we could talk easily.

    Very early morning.

The wife is still in her hammock.

    She snuggled in real good!

This was mid morning, starting to clear up some.

Awesome. Not sure about all the gators tho.

    What was your equipment list?
Is that a poncho liner your wife is using?

Nice report. I would have been worried about all the gators... looks beautiful though.

We saw everything from little babies, no more than a foot long, to BIG ones that had to be at least 12 feet! The farther we went in, the more skiddish they were. At night we could see several glowing eyes just off the dock. It was a little nerve racking at first once it got dark, but the hammock is just so comfortable we both fell asleep fairly easily. Although, when they went in or out of the water it was very loud and woke me up many times. That is a poncho liner, and we used the blue walmart pads underneath. It got down to 50 degrees and we were warm. I have an ENO DN, her's is DIY. Both use rings and straps. Those are Hammock Bliss bugnets.

I think I'd be hanging as high up as possible too.

Looks like a great place and i like to say Okefenokee. I have to say i'm not familiar with crocs ,alligators etc,,creeps me out a bit, but i'm sure its like bears in BC, know their behavior and act accordingly. I'm with NC, i'd probably be hangin high. Glad you had a great trip, nice pics.

This sounds like a great trip, and one that I'd like to do with my son.

Can you tell me a bit more about the paddling and the campsites and the bugs and climate...what time of year do you think would be best to come down for a couple of nights out in the swamp?

    Thanks,

I am not so sure about being that close to gators esp. when they want to be beside the canoe.

    I really like this picture

    Awesome place

I remember camping there when I was a little kid. It was a blast. I have taken my kids there on day trips, but when we camp it is usually up in north GA. Maybe I will plan for an over-nighter in the not too distant future.
