Foothills Trail Weekend Trip
Sorry for the short notice.
Going to the Laurel Creek portion of the Foothills Trail at Lake Jocasee in upstate SC this weekend. Plan on being at trailhead off Highway 178 around 10 a.m. of the 5 March 2011, which is Saturday. Just one night, I plan on hiking back Sunday.
Anyone is more than welcome to join.
Probably be a 10 mile total trip, 5 miles in and 5 miles out. Moderate trail, nothing too steep.
Let me know if you're interested.
Take lots of pics
Some of my FL hiking buddies are trying to talk me into doing a 4 day trip later this month. I'm already kind of on the hook for some other trips and I'm nursing an ankle injury. So I'm trying to economize as much as possible (can probably only get one kitchen pass this month).
Please fire off some pictures and a trip report. I'm curious as to the terrain and the weather at the moment. The stuff I saw online looked pretty cool and there appears to be a ton of waterfalls and other points of interest.
I already have a trip report in another thread. You should be able to do a search to find it. There are plenty of waterfalls and scenic spots. It's a nice place to go, plus it's totally free.
I am going to be on the section along the Chattooga River this weekend w/ about 20 other guys. Beautiful area of SC! Enjoy your trip and I hope we all stay dry.
2 years ago I camped in a hammock for the first time with this same group. I was a source of many jokes and speculation that I was going to be cold. Last year with the same group there were a few interested guys that asked a bunch of real questions and layed in the hammock. This year there are going to be 4 of us in hammocks (and 16 guys on the ground in the mud )
I'll be hiking that area (Laurel Valley to Bad Creek) At the end of March begining of April. I'm really curious how the trail is and if many of the trees are leafing out yet? Would love to read you trail report and see some pics!
