Excited and could use some adult supervision

OK... I've been lurking and researching this forum forna little bit and have finally decided on my hammock.

I'm going to order the WBBB 1.1 double 1.7 with the straps. I'm hoping it can be made in coyote brown, but if not the OD should be fine.

My big hurdle now is deciding what tarp I should get. I'm looking for a 3-season tarp with a very subdued color signature. I'm not sure whether to go with the WB Tarp or the MacCat (not sure which size but not going with spinn).

I'd really appreciate any and all advice. Thanks!

    David

I'm a bit confused as to which hammock you ordered? The 1.1, or 1.7 or both? The color has me befuddled too. I thought they only came in slate grey or olive green?

The warbonnet big mamajamba is an excellent tarp. Lots of happy owners on this site.

    Sorry... It is the 1.7.

I was under the impression that there are gen 1.0 and 1.1 models.

The 1.0, 1.1, and 1.7 all refer to the weight per square yard of the material the hammock is made of.

You choose which material based on a number of factors including your weight, durability, flattness of lay in the hammock, ect.

Single and double layers of material is also a choice.

Brandon, who makes the Blackbird hammock can help you answer all these questions when you order.

    Happy hanging!

I just got a hex hennessy tarp. I think I got the coated polyester. Not the lightest tarp option for sure but it is in a very natural lightish OD green. I got no complaints about it but also don't have a whole lot to compare it to.

It has great, almost over-the-top, coverage but with some sticks or trekking poles can be opened up into what I call porch fashion. This way it provides a very roomy place to cook or sit or just use the hammock as a recliner and take in nature while having overhead cover.

    Good luck.

This is a difficult decision for many of us. Warbonnet's tarps are a bit lighter, if memory serves. OES gets the tip of the hat for creating the design early on. The good news is that you won't be disappointed with the quality of either. Both are handmade either in a garage (Warbonnet), or a college dorm/parent's basement (OES) and that fact is evident when you see them. I've put both of those guys' products thru some burly storms including 70+ mph winds and even hail. You can't tell from looking at either tarp. I've got tarps from both going back more than 4 years that still look like they were bought within the last month. Fantastic quality!

What color is the MacCat tarp? It's tough to tell from the pictures.

I think by default, Brian makes the MacCat tarps in a light gray, but I'm sure he'll make you a tarp in any color he has - I recently bought a MacCat Standard in coyote brown, and it looks awesome. I've also seen pictures of black tarps from OES, so I assume he can accommodate your needs. Having never seen a WB tarp, I won't try to compare the two manufacturers, but I will say that OES makes an excellent tarp.
