I voted May 27-29 as I have that open. Fantastic time to be up there ..... snow and mud gone by then.
Keep in mind that a huge hang up there takes some thought ....there are some sites on the trail that would not accommodate more than 5 or 6 hangers. Other sites you could hang a bunch.

On the SHT ....Leskinen Creek site is good for a bunch of hangers. Ample parking at Finland Rec Center and an pretty easy hike. A fun day hike is go south from there past the huge glacial erratic ...over the huge bog ....up to section 13.

Keep in mind the NCT too ....in the past there were tons of hanging spots....also it is a fairly gentle trail for less experienced backpackers.

I haven't hiked the SHT yet as I've just moved here. However, I'll be up there asap as soon as this snow is gone.

I'm up for any location and I like the idea of section 13. Just read the link and it sounds awesome.

As for hiking, It would be cool to do around 10 miles a day. But, I agree that it could be a little much with people that are new to hiking.

oh boy 13hr drive....i'll watch the thread but i'm thinking i'm doubtful unless there's a large group from MI going or it moves a little more closer to WS/MI border.

first week of June for me

I've got a window of time, June 1-7, when me and my oldest two sons are going somewhere for a good long backpacking trip. We've been eyeing the SHT, June there suits our blood a lot more than June in North Carolina!

So if there's an HF party forming up on the SHT when we're up there, we'll arrange our trip to intersect.
