Hi Guys,
I got my Blackbird 1.0DL(i) on Tuesday and had a backyard hang on Wednesday night.
The buckles took me a minute to get a hang of, but I would imagine that the straps will get easier to work with as they soften up a bit.
I was setting it up where I normally hang so I had a good idea of where the straps needed to be height wise for the span. Hung it up and jumped in.
As soon as I sat down I felt the security of the double layer, compared to the single parachute material hammock I have been using it was just great -
This was the point my nervous , anxious feelings of the wait and what will it be like turned to love and appreciation.
So in I go, using the Shug method of zipper adjustment (my wife calls out "what did you say?" I was reciting the vid out loud) I was now in the Blackbird......I had my UQ in "about the right spot" so I was wriggling and stuffing about getting it sort before I looked at getting some sort of lay sorted.
I had read some notes about being too far into the foot box, too close and too far from the zippers, so I knew that I may have to look for the sweet spot.
First I was too far into the foot box, then too far from the zippers. Within 2 mins I stopped, relaxed and knew that my short but agonizing wait had been rewarded well and truly.
So another couple of moments of adjustment in the UQ and I was set.
I have only been hanging for about 6 months now and whilst I have added ridge lines and worked the diagonal line I found that I did not feel like I have to work for the comfortable / flat lye in the BB at all, it was just there waiting for me to find it.
It was a work night and we have some renovations going on in the house. I headed out to sleep at about 11pm, set the alarm for 6 and snoooozed out.
Next thing I know the alarm is slowly awakening me from a perfect night’s sleep. I was very confident in the product and that it was going to be something special, but these things are more than I had hoped for.
I’m 6’1 and 210, no experience in a hammock other than an a ebay cheapie so I may not have the experience of others….. But I’m wrapped!
I have some triangle thingies and whoopee slings on the way that I will add to the new rig. I also scored a broken arrow shaft from a mate at work today so the toggle is in hand – so to speak.
I’ll look forward to posting a vid of the completed set-up… I feel like a proud father.... and now after talking about it, I'm thinking of trying to put it on the wife that I may stay out there again tonight.
If you have one you know - If you don't look forward to it!
