I would be prepared for the possibility of 20 degree temps in late September above 12K feet.

It gets cold quick out here at elevation.

thanks for the tip,i plan on bringing my 15 degree ba bag with my poncho as a back up, that is if i don't break down and buy a tq first

If the forecast says 20F, be prepared for 10F. I go prepared for 20 regardless, and add clothing if it's supposed to be 20-25F. Snows every month of the year, sometimes... Had snow the first week of August for the last two years running (was backpacking that week too).

we did a trip the year before last in kings canyon, up around the sixty lakes basin, in late august and i recall some pretty cold nights. looks like this year will be in the mt ritter/thousand islands area
