    Lake Jocassee 3-18-11

After what seemed like a long winter, I needed to get out of town and hang a bit. I got a group of guys from church together and we headed out to Lake Jocassee's boat-in only campsite. We went up Friday afternoon and then spent all day Saturday exploring the lake and trying to find some waterfalls and trying to catch some fish for dinner. We managed to find the waterfalls, but the fish were more elusive. We had to cut our exploring short though because a big thunderstorm rolled in. We made for camp and just hung out there the rest of the evening. We stayed over Saturday night and came back on Sunday morning. Out of 8 guys we had 4 in hammocks, and I'm pretty sure that at least 2 of the other guys will eventually switch to hammocks if they keep camping. It was a fun trip and most of all, relaxing. It was the perfect break from "city life" that we all needed.

I feed my sleeping bag around my hammock to keep the insulation on the underside. My suspension slipped during the night; so i woke up with my bag dragging the ground. It was still warm and toasty inside though.

a waterfall we found, I think it's Wright Creek Falls, but not sure

Great idea using the sleeping bag like that. Thanks for the trip report and pictures.

I think the fact that you were using the Eno Slap Strap Pro suspension was why you ended up so close to the ground. Many folks report that they stretch a good bit when in use, and I've even seen it happen.

Great report. Glad you had some fun.

    Only been to Jocassee once

quite a few years ago. We made a long day of it with a paddle from one of the main landings the whole way up the north arm to the big falls. It was a 14 mile round trip, but worth it because of the beauty of the falls. One of these days I will be back.

Seems like a fun trip, thanks for posting. Have to agree with NCPatrick about your suspension slipping. In my best Spanish, es una caca.

Nice trip. I had looked at the Double Springs area before but didn't see a lot of options for hanging. Looks like you found some.
    Which site were you on?
BTW, I checked my pictures. That is Wright's Creek falls.

we were at site #13. the ranger said we could hang off any trees we wanted. We just had to pay for a big enough tent pad to accommodate all of us on the ground. from what i saw, you can find places to hang at most of the sites, you may just have to go a few feet from the tent pads.

Ahhhh... Seneca! My high school (Wren) played Seneca in everything. We were in the same Skyline Conference. Not to mention, I lived in a garage apartment in Seneca my last year at Clemson.
