    Heavy weather 4/4/11

Hope all our hikers are battened down for some stormy weather... looks like there is a lot of it out tonight (weather in picture headed southwest to northeast).

Got a new limb harvest in the yard. Buddy of mine had a white pine snap about 35 feet up and come thru roof into bedroom. Lucky that eveyone was up watching TV. And they say television isn't good for ya!?!

My crew was doing a small section hike on the AT, Wayah Bald to Wesser. We had planned a 4/3-4/5 lallygag hike, only 6 miles a day, when we got word of the impending storm on Sunday night. We decided to crank it up and do a 12 miler on Monday into Wesser, and had the first of the storms hit on the last mile of the hike. When we circled back to Wayah Bald to pick up the other car, it was hailing and lightning was popping all around....glad we bailed out!

We had heard that BAT was behind us, as he had gone down to the Franklin hiker celebration on Saturday. My guess is that he wound up riding the storm out at Wayah Bald shelter or Cold Springs shelter that night.
