Prussik in place of a Whoopie?

I tried this too and was not pleased with the results. No long term test however, after a few backyard hangs it started to creep. Also, the prussics were virtually impossible to adjust or untie. I made my knots from contiuous loops about 12 inches long made from 7/64 amsteel tied to 1/8 amsteel....my 2 cents.

I'd recommend using the Klemheist knot over the Prusik. I'd probably use a wrap or 2 more than the picture. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klemheist_knot

Also if you want to avoid needing a loop you could use the Adjustable Grip Hitch. You can also increase the number of wraps oh this. http://www.Layhands.com/Knots/Knots_...tableGripHitch
This is the same idea as the taught line hitch, but I've found it to work better. Incidentally, the construction of this knot is very similar to the Klemheist.

My first time hanging (before finding HF) was with rope and prusik. I found out that I was constantly having to adjust because it kept slipping. Of course, I didn't know that the ropes used were supposed to be different sizes. I also had a hard time undoing it after hanging, it just puts to much stress, errr, rather just pulls it too tight. It didn't break or have a complete failure, just slowly, over night would slip. Now thinking about it, kind of reminds me of slap straps- Wake up with your butt on the ground!!!
