OES Micro Spinn Vs. OES Standard Spinn

I would say Deluxe but that is not a choice, so Standard i guess!

FWIW what hammock will this be going over? That might play into the choice!

I'm guessing since your two choices are small tarps, that you don't plan to spend much time under them. Is that a fair guess? The difference in coverage of those two tarps is slight. The Micro isn't going to give you much space at all under cover beyond the hammock. The Standard will leave a slightly larger dry spot, but still not really ideal for stowing your gear on the ground below your hammock unless it's wrapped. Neither are going to give you a lot of shelter from the wind on their own.

For the purposes of an AT Thru and those are the choices, might as well go with the Micro and save a little more weight. That would be my choice anyway. FWIW, I used a Standard Spinn during the warm months of my AT hike.

Regarding the size of your hammock. Every hammock I have, save the HH Safari, fits under my Spinn Micro; Blackbird and Switchback included. Just have to be willing to work the details during set-up.

Just so you know...Brian is having difficulty sourcing good spinnUL and it was not a choice when I ordered a deluxe a few days ago.

Thanks Cannibal, that answers a bunch of little questions I still had. I think I will go with the micro for weight reduction. I'm also going to have some extra cash put away in case any of my gear doesn't work out.

I like the standard. You get an extra foot per side of coverage for only a couple more ounces. But on the AT you have a nice backup plan of staying in a shelter if say windblown rain occurs. I've only seen the micro and it was plenty good enough coverage except for bad wind blown rain, in that situation I'd imagine the standard would have the same issues as well. If it doesn't work for ya, you can always have a bigger back up one mailed to you.

I really want a micro as well.

Given that with the Micro you'll have such a small space, and you don't even know if you can get it in Spinn, check out Warbonnet's The Edge. It's only about 3/4 oz heavier, but you'll have 126x94 coverage as opposed to the 120x60 of the Micro... that's my $0.02

With the Nano 7 the Standard would give you pretty good coverage as the hammock is so small (or should say smaller than most others)!
Cannibal is right neither will give you a lot of real estate to do much of anything but sleep! If you were to move the hammock up or out of the way somehow it would give you more room to do chores, but still not a whole lot!
If you are after weight reduction as well as coverage I would look into a Cuben tarp! Raul just got a Cuben MacCat Deluxe (he posted a vid on it) and that would give you great coverage as well as being very, very light weight! The cost will be significantly more, so not sure if that would factor in for ya??
Or you could look into a custom Cuben?!?!
