improvement on decending ring buckle system

    Hello... first time post here.

I have been following the forums for some time now. Thought I would crawl out from under the rock and share something... after all, this forum has given so much to me. What an amazing amount of knowledge here!

I have two ENO double nests that I have been experimenting with suspension. I have one rigged up with whoopie slings and the other with descending ring buckles and webbing.

I have noticed that the buckle will want to slip if you get a situation like this:

I know a lot of folks put a slippery half hitch right behind the buckle, but this still tends to pull the webbing to one side in my opinion.

My solution to the problem is this:

Its a couple of pieces of 1" webbing sewn together with a grommet added. You could use wider webbing if you had it or probably even use a single piece of 1". I thought the wider sleeve would provide a little bit more friction and stay in place better. Its basically a strain relief for the tag end of your webbing. It ensures that the webbing stays square in the buckle providing the largest amount of surface area to hold the load. I added some lengths of zing-it lashing, complete with Canadian jam knot (thanks Rug), to the grommets to tie up the loose webbing and also provide for a drip line. Works pretty well...

...that's my baby girl sweeping the front porch. She knows she has to do her chores before she can nap in Dad's hammock.
