Thread: Tension Setting

  1. #11
what do you mean by bunching up the bottom stitch exactly? take a picture if you can

adjusting the tension up and down should give visible results unless something else is wrong.

before putting any fabric under the needle, pull on the bobbin thread, does it pull easily and smooth? there should be little resistence when you pull the thread through (bobbin thread)

I got some new thread and it all works fine now. The lady at Hancock fabric said my problem was old dried out thread. I also switched to a red needle. They were out of orange.

i ran into the same problem when i first started using my machine. turns out the problem was due to a backwards needle and not threading the machine the proper way. once i corrected this and adjusted the tension i was good to go.

Dude! I totally have to make one of those for my wife's hamsters!

Back on topic, I had the same problem as you, using the same thread, and I solved the problem the same way

They only had cotton Gutterman's so I went with heavy duty poly C&C. Even though the bad thread I had was C&C it was from Wallyworld and wasn't the heavy duty. People definitely need to check their thread and where they get it since it seems to be about age and product turnover more so than just about the brand. Wallyworld probably doesn't sell much thread so it sits there and gets dried out.

A bug net. I've spent all day on the plans. Now I need some netting. What do you think would be easier velcro or a zipper?

Wally World sells scads of thread. BUT they buy billions of spools and let them sit in a uncontroled environment for long periods of time before shipping them out in lousy trucks to sit in warehouses somewhere else. Thread has a shelf life and bad storage can reduce that shelf life exponentially. Coats and Clark may have good products available but I can assure you Wally World is concerned only about price and not about quality. In a pinch, with patience you can do a decnet job but the better the thread the better the experience.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

"Bless you child, when you set out to thread a needle don't hold the thread still and fetch the needle up to it; hold the needle still and poke the thread at it; that's the way a woman most always does, but a man always does t'other way."
