Hello from Vancouver, WA. First hammock camping trip coming in 6 weeks

I've been an avid back country hiker and camper for years. But I'm getting old so I've been considering making the change to hammock camping for several years. I have a four day trip planned for this summer and after a bad back injury last year I figured now is the time to make the switch as there is no way I'm sleeping on the ground come June.

So I did tons of reading on instructables and went out and purchased my first hammock (Skeeter Beeter (not the pro)) today. I can't wait to try it out but I still have tons to do before I'm ready for the maiden voyage, so to speak.

I have tons of questions, but since this is the introductions forum I won't post them here.

    See you on the trails
    Mike

Hammock camping re-invigorated my backpacking experience.
Here is a series of videos I did for new hangers. It may help some.

    Hi Mike,
I just started Hammock camping also thanks to Shug.
Watch his vids, very funny and a lot of info. Contact me if you would like to talk about camping. I hike in the Gorge, Gifford Pinchot area and I plan on doing a 3 day hike in the Indian Heaven area in the late summer early fall time.
    Peace \/ and welcome.

    Welcome Mike from another Washingtonian,

I don't know the exact dates of your trip, but if you are free on June 4th-6th, we are having a gathering in Oregon, not too far from where you are; at Opal Creek Wilderness in Oregon.

    Here's the thread link: http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=29898

It's a great way to meet people, see what kind of gear they have, and learn some new things.

Welcome. There is a nice pile of folks here who live in the Pacific NW, to hang, talk, and camp put with.

Welcome Mike. I have a Skeeter Beeter also which sure beats sleeping on the ground.
There's been some discussion of a Washington summer hang which can be found here:
