    The first overnighter

I had a chance to slip out to the woods yesterday for some much needed RNR. I set up camp around 5pm and spent the rest of the time reading and tuning my gear. I was pretty pumped to see how the hammock would sleep for the first time and I wasn't disappointed but I was cold with the mid 40 overnight temps. As you guys know the old sleeping bag in the hammock trick doesn't work too well but I got a decent nights sleep never the less. After I set up my tarp I was a little concerned with it's coverage but it kept me dry during the short rain that came around 3am. The smell of the rain and the light ground breeze that slipped under the tarp was very peaceful. I woke up around 8am with plenty of energy and ready for the day. It didn't take long to break everything down and I was on my way shortly after. I loved the experience but I am definitely going to be buying an underquilt! All in all I had a pretty successful trip.

No UQ in the 40's? Brrrr. You'll be toasty once you get some bottom insulation. Sounds like a good first outing. Coming into the summer you'll maybe need to look into a bugnet (unless you already have one). I recommend Warbonnet's.

I brought an extra fleece blanket that I tried to lay inside the hammock. It didn't work out like I had planned, it was all ganked up before I could even put the sleeping bag inside the hammock. Yea, it was pretty cold. Next time will be better though.

Cold sleep or not, that's a nice spot you've got there! I love photo's looking over relaxed feet out the end of a hammock. :-)

Great set up, and will only get better with some bottom insulation. Now that you've experienced CBS, you'll appreciate a good UQ even more!!

Not a bad first outing! There's always a something new to pick up, learn, and make the experience even better. Thanks for sharing!!

    Great report love the picts.
While your waiting for your UQ you could do a gather end hammock with your fleece blanket and tie it up under the hammock as an UQ. Having it on the outside will prevent crushing from your body weight.

    - really like this idea. I recently introduced a buddy to the warmth of a make shift uq. He was using a sb with a down blanket in the hammock for added warmth. We tied the blanket under the hammock with a few sheep bends and shock cord.

Love the pictures and trip report. Don't let not having a uq keep you out of the woods. Improvise and overcome.

Hey, have you tried wrapping that sleeping bag around the hammock? Depending on the bag size and zipper style, it might be doable,. If so, free warmth! Is youe WB Traveler a double layer? If so just slip a cheap WM blue pad in there under your back until you get an UQ, in case the bag pod style won't work.

    Nice hang BTW!
For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us....that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now.
