that's happened to me too many times. last spring it was a load of top soil, i'm still finding dirt in cracks and crannies.
my wife said it was a p/u truck rain dance. in fact when we're in dire need of rain she asks if we should get some more dirt.

At least he admitted it. I am always amazed at the way a weatherman can predict clear skys one night and then remind us how he mentioned we would have the afternoon thunderstorm that roll through and ruined the picnic during the next night's broadcast. Its like they read 1984 as an instruction manual.

This very thing happened to me a couple of weekends ago except it was the 6:30 am shuffle. Thankfully we got a warning with a couple claps of thunder, so I was able to get everything set up in time. There is nothing like the sound of rain hitting nylon with you snuggled inside your bag staying dry.

Oh and the weatherman was calling for afternoon/evening showers and storms that day...

Oldgringo - I've been driving my pickup around with 700 lbs of sand in the back for months. (Don't ask - I'm married, that's why). Parked under some oak trees, acorns fell, and now I have two oak trees growing in the back of my pickup. When anyone notices I tell them I got tired of looking for shade to park under so I decided to grow my own. Throw a little dirt in with the corn and you might wind up growing a portable crop.

    Kinda sorta related...

My oldest daughter was in colorguard...part of out high school marching band. We have a meteorologist among the band booster parents. At the start of their warm-up before a Friday night football game (fortunately a home game) last fall our band director, after noticing a few relatively ugly clouts drifting nearby, asks said meteorologist what the chance of rain was that night. Our meteorologist told him there was a 0% chance of rain...

About 20 minutes later me and 3 other band dads found ourselves scrambling to get instrument cases to the kids because one of those clouds decided to unload its moisture...0% chance my foot...

Of course the meteorologist had a nice long explanation about how 0% chance didn't actually mean its not going to rain (and even though I'm a geologist I understood his explanation) so now we just accuse him being a typical weatherman...wrong more often than not...

Hard to argue with a geologist's down-to-earth logic ... unless you're a stickler for the truth, like OG.

I often think that if I had it all over to do again. I would be a weatherman. Why? -
