I finished sewing my first DIY hammock today based off Knotty's directions and modified by the illustrations in the DIY sheets thread to make it a double layer.
I have plenty of amsteel to make the suspension and I've been mulling over the best way to do this. If I understand the method on the 'sheets' thread they first wrap the bundle of fabric on each end and then use a triple fisherman's knot to form a loop that the actual suspension will attach to.
What I 'think' I want to do is just make a double locked brummel on the end of a shortish piece of the amsteel and larks head this loop around the gathered end. This will leave me with a tag end just hanging out maybe 10" or so. I'll bury my actual main suspension line on each end into this tag end to form a UCR. The bury from the locked brummel may limit how short that tag end can be, but you get the idea.
Any reason this won't work?
