Thanks for the idea rich. I'd really like to keep this tarp as light as possible. I've heard shock cord is heavy don't know though never tried it.

I know what you mean Ron.
The 2.2 held well in my backyard testing with just light winds and I love the way LineLoc3 work, so simple to adjust.
In keeping in the spirit of LW hiking the cuben tarp and Lash-it just seem to be a perfect match. I wished it would have worked for me.

FYI future and current cuben tarp owners.
A loose cuben tarps is noisy (kept me awake) however not as noisy as a loose spinn.
Keeping a cuben tarp tight is critical on a windy nite.

    .

    Outandback,

I kept the 2.2 on my tarps that had linelocs. What I have found that works for me is just put a slippery half hitch with the tag end around the working line. Pull the line down until you have it at the desired tightness then pinch the lineloc with you finger and tie in the half hitch. It you need to adjust you just pull the tag end and tighten everything down.

That said I may look at trip tease, does anyone know the weight compared to 2.2?

I just weighed a length of Triptease and it comes out to 0.72 grams(0.025 oz.) per foot.

    So, 7.2 grams(0.25 oz.) per 10'.

    What does Lash-it weigh?

    Lash It 2.2mm = 2.56 oz/100ft

Looks like Triptease is 2.0 oz/100 ft so you would actually be saving a bit of weight going that route.

Anyone tried Dynaglide with the line locs? If that works, that'd be an even better solution to your weight conundrum as it only weighs 1.6 oz/100ft. It's only 2.0 mm diameter though. Just a thought.

Wow! Great discussion and excellent advice thank you guys.

I'll head up to REI today and pick some up. Lighter than 2.2 Lash-it
with greater holding power in the LineLoc's. Perfect.

I've just received the same HMG tarp and would like to know if anyone has info RE: 7/64th inch Amsteel (2.8 mm diameter) and their holding power in LineLoc3's. Looks like it could hold based on diameter measurements alone.

The downside to using Kelty Tripease is that it lowers the success rate of stealth camping.

According to the specs, the Linelocs are made for 2.5-3.0 diameter cord.

Sorry if that was mentioned already, I'm skimming.

The rope guy at REI said triptease is a Spectra guyline!?!
I have no idea if he knows what he's talking about.
