    The Packa cuben fiber?

    Hi all

New member here. Just got my first hammock and I'm trying to see what of my old car camping gear can be used long and short term as I explore lighter weight hiking

I came across this forum and Shug and Professor Hammocks YouTube tutorials, but I am trying to fill in the gaps. I would like to try and buy once cry one where I have to, and to that end I am waiting to buy a tarp until I've got a couple of good nights sleep under clear skies. I am looking heavily at the cuben tarp from hammockgear.com, and was wondering why the Packa doesn't seem to be offered in cuben fiber yet. It would seem to me that the weight savings of going from silnylon to cuben fiber with tarps should work well for the Packa which is basically a mobile tarp for you and your pack. I know there are cuben pack covers available, but I like the one piece advantage the Packa offers.

Using cuben fiber could the Packa come it under 6 oz?

Wow, and I thought it wouldn't be cost effective. I sure am glad to be wrong!

The big worry with the cuben packa is over-heating and sweating inside it. Pit vents may not do enough to solve the issue.

However - Super bummed I JUST bought a packa only to read this. Last time a thread about this popped up it didn't seem too likely. I'd be willing to be one of the first people to try it out - but now, maybe not.

I'm sure you'd find a buyer for your new "old" one here if you wanted to "trade up".

While I'm sure Joe and Cedar have considered this, the main drawback to cuben is abrasion resistance (at least in the lightweight cuben).
I would guess loaded pack shoulder straps would provide plenty 'o abrasion...prototype will tell the story, I'm sure!
