the transparency of a cuben fiber tarp

So, I did a nice almost 20 mile hike Tuesday with temps in the mid to upper 80's and very humid. Downed a lot of fluids throughout the day, and especially once in camp for the night. This, of course, led to a 1 am wake up call to visit a man about a mule....

Upon waking I take a few seconds to get my bearings. My tarp is in porch mode and I can see, without light, to my left just fine off into the woods. When I look to my right I wonder why it's foggy. The confusion rattles in my brain for a few minutes as to why I'm in the middle of fog on the right and clear on the left. Then I wake a little more to the realization that I'm looking through the cuben fiber tarp that's giving a "foggy" impression. Got a little laugh outta that one!

Not being a morning person, I generally sleep in such that it shortens my time on the trail. I can see where a cuben tarp could change all that ... I'm just not sure whether it's a good change or a bad change

I use my Buff as a blind-fold so I can sleep in past the first light of morning. If/When I get a CF tarp, this practice will not change.
    I ride a recumbent.
I like to HAM it up on the CW.
    I use Linux.
    I play go.
Of course I sleep in a hammock!

I wouldn't have minded a little sleeping in too, except when ya' gotta go, ya' gotta go!

The pics I've seen through the cuben tarps makes me want one... I like the muted, foggy, dreamy look...

I like hanging without a tarp so I can look around, but I like having a tarp for privacy and weather protection. CF is the solution

Cool Story I can see how that could happen, haha

My CF tarp is not that transparent. I guess it depends on who's tarp you buy.
It does let a lot of light thru and to fix that I usually sleep with a stocking cap
and have it pulled over my eyes.

The transparency of the cuben tarp has only been a problem one time. 2sticks (daughter) was using the cuben tarp while playing with her Gameboy. The light from the game made the cuben tarp a huge spotlight for all the bugs to see. You could hear the bugs hitting the tarp like rain.

I actually like the transparency for that early morning sun to come gently through the tarp, much easier on the eye adjustment than without it, at least for me!

Now I wonder what it does for the "Early Riser's" on the trail? Do they get a faster start in the morning?
