I'm planning on camping out with my daughter on July 15th up in Coldbrook Campgrounds...possibly staying till the 17th. The campgrounds from what I've read has a lot of trees and a nearby creek or stream. This is a drive-in campground but really close to some trails. If any of you are interested and joining me that would be cool. Sadly, I may not have my hammock setup yet but I would be interested in seeing some if any decide to go.
More information of where I am planning on camping 9 days from now
Wish I could go
Magnus, thanks for the invite, but I can't attend. PLEASE post some pics so the rest of us in So Cal can get a feel for this spot. And have a blast!
I'll definitely post pics. I'll refrain from posting any ground dwelling shelters...HAHAHA. I am hoping I have my hammock setup by then.
I wish I could take my daughter hiking but the trails I want to take her on might be too much seeing she's only 5, but we'll see.
Hey, Magnus. Any pics from your trip? How'd it go?

Thanks for posting that TR. I enjoyed it. Wish I could make the Aug. 20th. I'm returning from a trip that day. If the hang will be for a few days maybe I can meet y'all up there. Big Bear isn't far from me. I'll check out the trip planner. If not, we should get together sometime in the near future up in the Angeles or Cleveland National Forest.
Good to see other SoCal hangers collaborating some good camp sites in the area. As summer approaches I intend to post up some of my own finds. I'll probably use GPS coords since I just kinda go and stop where I see fit.
SoCal Hanging Spots
Thanks, Shane. I'd love to learn of some more spots to hang in SoCal. Here's some more:
Cleveland National Forest (off the Ortega Hwy between the 5 and 15 Fwy)
Sites 12, 20, and 28.
Probably other spots but these looked most promising. I stayed at 12 this weekend. You have to hunt a bit. Lots of trees but the way they've cleared the land for campsites makes it difficult to get two trees close enough for hanging. Bring long straps--some of those oaks are pretty big!
Next month I will be hanging at the 3rd stream crossing @ Lytle Creek. Not sure if anyone has had experience hanging there yet but from the way it looks, it appears that there are a few trees to hang from.
