You will have to join the group to get the info though.
Thanks much, Lost Biker! I saw that thread the other day and have already joined the VintageSingers Yahoo group. That manual is for a newer machine with a rotary hook shuttle & race (mine's a long "vibrating" torpedo-shaped shuttle that swings back & forth in an arc), but they have a lot else in common that will be useful to clean and adjust my sweet old thing. I've been tuning it reasonably well "by ear" for 45 years, but I'd like to know what I'm missing or doing wrong. Maybe somebody there can illuminate the arcana. Thanks again! I love HF and am so glad I joined! So many threads, not enough time...

WhollyHamaca - glad I could help. Sorry it didn't have everything you needed. I'll look out for more info and post back if I find anything.

Thanks, Lost Biker, you've been a big help! After a little more searching on the Vintage Singers Yahoo group I found a still-active link to download the manual I need, so now I have the Operator's manual and the Adjustment manual for my model (which it now seems is a 27, not 127 as I had thought, but the manuals I have cover all in that series.)

I'll be happy to share what I found, though I doubt many folks have that type of shuttle. I think it was replaced by the rotary hook around 1912 or so.

I'm going to start looking for the treadle parts to retrofit it back. I think I saw something that will work (with machine too!) in a thrift shop the other day, but they were closing for the night so I didn't have a chance to check it out. I've seen them on eBay, but money is tight and shipping is costly. It's not as if I need to re-treadle mine urgently after using it as is for 45 years! If I get something interesting I'll post it.

Didn't mean to hijack your thread~ I love your pix of your new old Singer! Thanks again!

WhollyHamaca - your not hijacking. I'm glad you found what you wanted. I am very pleased with my 201. My sister wants me to sew her quilt for her. I told here I only know how to inject thread, not sew. Funny look she gave me.
