I just did 20 miles from Clairmont gap to Cheaha earlier this month. Water was a major factor. I was able to carry 2 gal and a water filter and still was not enough. The heat required me to drink a lot plus there is no running water on the ridge at all. There are plenty of places off the ridge.

Bigbamaguy mentioned another get together towards the end of September up around Cheaha, las time we camped at Turnipseed. Maybe we can get a group that wants to meet somewhere in that area. I might be able to swing that.

    Guys:
We are looking at trying to get one scheduled at the end of September. We may try to get the spot below the Cheaha Shelter where we played at the creek. This will allow many hangers to join us. The mile walk is not that bad, but it will limit the dinner choices for a group. With the weather permitting maybe this weekend Mandydawn and I can go check out the location and see what the water situation looks like as well, we need some rain!!!!!!!!

Sounds like fun! Hiked Cave Creek trail loop back to the Cheaha trailhead back in July and loved it. Wish I could go, but we have marching band commitments during football season.

On the up side, I love watching the band!

It will still be hot and dry on the Pinhoti in September, but if you decide to go I would walk any of the sections between the state park and the 278 trailheads. You will find water down low between the ridges on just about all of these sections.

I just did the Skyway, Chinabee, Pinhoti loop Wednesday and Thursday of last week, report here http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...313#post539313

Everything is very dry, and fire restrictions are in place, so only cook stoves.
