Talking Nacrabiner - My first amsteel project

Picked up 200 feet of amsteel from the post office yesterday, so spent 20 mins having a play this afternoon...

I made my first nacrabiner using Opie's video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MvX-j...vLt04&index=16

    and voila:

gotta load it up and then cut the tails then it's all done.

Nice work. May I suggest shortening the ends a little, getting some shrink wrap and putting it on both loose ends together or shrink wrapping them individually. Helps to prevent further unbraiding of the amsteel.

I've got about a dozen now. I keep my Amsteel looped on the side of my toolbox in the garage, whenever we're hanging out out there I usually tie up a few, they're just so fun to make.

I did my first few like you did yours, with the spliced loop for the stopper knot to slip through. However, I read someone on here mentioned that they are just as safe and adequate with a simple larkshead to hold the stopper knot instead, so I've started tying mine like that. I find them much easier to work with in the field, plus I feel they're slightly more versatile this way. HYOH of course.

NOOOO! Backsplicing is more fun than shrinkwrapping!

That's true but I don't know that he has enough length to backplice. Certainly making the backsplice before makng the knot would be easier.
